Le National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) a annonce une initiative majeure pour creer un nouveau referentiel de performance standardise pour les robots humanoides. Cet effort vise a separer les capacites reelles des videos de demonstration polishes, representant le premier cadre de test standardise majeur depuis la fin du Defi Robot DARPA il y a pres de dix ans. Le referentiel propose couvre quatre domaines principaux: mobilite (escaliers, pentes), manipulation (boutons, outils), coordination de manipulation mobile (transporter des cartons a travers les portes), et cognition (planification de taches multi-etapes).
