Boston Dynamics Integrates Google DeepMind's Gemini Robotics into Spot Inspection Platform

Boston Dynamics has partnered with Google Cloud and Google DeepMind to integrate advanced AI models into its industrial inspection platform. The collaboration brings Google's Gemini and Gemini Robotics-ER 1.6 into Boston Dynamics' Orbit software, specifically its AI Visual Inspection (AIVI) and AIVI-Learning systems. The integration enables Spot robots to move beyond basic detection tasks to perform complex reasoning about their surroundings. Key capabilities include: holistic site awareness for early risk identification, automated hazard detection (leaks, debris, spills), instrument reading (gauges, thermometers), and transparent AI reasoning. The system supports zero-downtime upgrades where AI models update in the cloud without interrupting operations.
