As football fever sweeps the globe during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, a 3v3 fully autonomous robot football match took place on June 13 at Beijing's Zhongguancun Embodied Intelligence Innovation Industrial Park, marking a significant milestone for embodied AI development.
The robot players located the ball, moved, dribbled and shot entirely on their own, without any remote control or human intervention. Occasional falls and mistakes provided valuable real-world data for further improvement.
The match served as a real-world testbed for embodied AI, advancing perception, decision-making, motion control, and teamwork capabilities. Beyond football, the robots also performed a traditional Chinese lion dance, demonstrating how embodied intelligence technologies are moving from R&D into practical applications across industries, services and everyday life.
