AsiaInfo Technologies, a leading Chinese ICT service provider, and ABB, the Swiss-Swedish industrial automation giant, have jointly established the 'Embodied Intelligence Lab' in Beijing, marking a significant convergence of IT and Operational Technology (OT) in the race toward Physical AI.
The lab was officially inaugurated with Alibaba Cloud and NVIDIA attending as technical supporters, underscoring the cross-industry collaboration driving this initiative.
This partnership represents a highly symbolic combination: AsiaInfo brings deep expertise in 5G-Advanced (5G-A), cybersecurity, and AI capabilities built from years of telecom and enterprise digitalization, while ABB contributes a century of industrial automation leadership, including robotics, motion control, and factory automation systems.
The lab's stated focus is Physical AI — the convergence of AI reasoning with real-world physical action. The collaboration aims to deeply integrate AsiaInfo's 5G-A and AI capabilities with ABB's mechanical automation technologies, building upon cloud computing and large-scale training optimization to create a new 'R&D-Transfer-Deployment' paradigm for industrial intelligence.
Key research directions include:
- AI-powered industrial robotics control with 5G-A ultra-low latency connectivity
- Intelligent manufacturing systems combining OT data with AI decision-making
- Cloud-native robotic training and simulation platforms
- Cybersecurity frameworks for industrial AI deployments
Industry analysts note that the AsiaInfo-ABB partnership is emblematic of a broader trend: as embodied intelligence moves from lab demonstrations to factory floors, the integration of IT (data, AI, connectivity) with OT (robotics, automation, physical control) becomes the critical success factor.
The lab plans to develop and test solutions across multiple industrial verticals, initially targeting manufacturing, energy, and logistics sectors where both companies have established customer bases.
