Agility Robotics Valued at $2 Billion, Unveils Gen 5 Digit Robot with 50lb Capacity and RoboFab Expansion Plans

Agility Robotics CEO Peggy Johnson made a series of significant announcements during a fireside chat at the 2026 Abundance Summit on May 7, revealing the company's current valuation, funding plans, production capacity targets, and next-generation robot capabilities.

$2 Billion Valuation and New Funding Round

Johnson disclosed that Agility Robotics is currently valued at approximately $2 billion (¥13.7 billion). The company plans to launch a new funding round later this year, with proceeds dedicated to completing the capacity expansion of its RoboFab manufacturing facility.

Located in Salem, Oregon, RoboFab represents Agility Robotics' strategic manufacturing base. The company aims to boost the factory's annual production capacity to 10,000 units, positioning itself for large-scale commercial deployment across logistics and manufacturing sectors.

Gen 5 Digit Robot: 50lb Deadlift Breakthrough

The upcoming fifth-generation Digit robot will feature a significant payload upgrade, capable of deadlifting 50 pounds (about 22.7kg). This enhancement enables Digit to handle more intensive heavy-duty operations in warehouse environments.

Currently, Digit's operational costs range from $10-25 per hour (¥68.5-171.3 per hour). Johnson expressed confidence that with scaling and technological maturation, these costs could be reduced to $2-3 per hour (¥13.7-20.6 per hour) in the future—making humanoid robots economically competitive with human labor in many scenarios.

Company Background and Growth Trajectory

Founded in 2015 as a spin-off from Oregon State University's Dynamic Robotics Laboratory, Agility Robotics has established itself as a leader in industrial humanoid robotics. The company maintains headquarters in Corvallis, Oregon, with additional offices in Pittsburgh and Palo Alto.

Agility Robotics has forged strategic partnerships with major corporations including Amazon, Toyota, and NVIDIA. The cumulative funding across six rounds now exceeds $600 million (¥4.11 billion), reflecting strong investor confidence in the company's technology and market positioning.

Leadership Team with Tech Industry Credentials

CEO Peggy Johnson brings extensive experience from Qualcomm and Microsoft, where she spent 24 years in engineering, sales, marketing, business development, and internet services roles, followed by 6 years as Executive Vice President of Business Development at Microsoft. She also serves on the boards of Fox and BlackRock.

CTO Pras Velagapudi holds advanced degrees from Carnegie Mellon University and previously worked at Amazon Robotics (formerly Kiva Systems), where he contributed to the development and deployment of Amazon's warehouse automation systems.

Commercial Deployment Progress

The current generation Digit robot already demonstrates impressive real-world capabilities, including 4-hour battery life, continuous shift operation, and adaptability to demanding assembly line environments. It has been integrated with cloud automation platforms that seamlessly connect with existing warehouse automation systems including AMRs and warehouse management systems.

Industry Impact

If Agility Robotics successfully achieves its annual production target of 10,000 units at RoboFab, the company could effectively address the labor shortages in warehousing and logistics by providing intelligent mechanical workforce capable of round-the-clock operations. This scale of production would mark a significant milestone in the commercialization of humanoid robotics for industrial applications.
