Xynova, the Chinese dexterous-hand startup founded in late 2024, has closed a RMB 500 million (about $70 million) Series A+ round led by Meituan, with NIO Capital, China Merchants Capital and an unnamed major internet company participating, and Xiaomi Strategic Investment adding to its position. The deal takes cumulative funding to roughly RMB 1.5 billion across four rounds in 19 months — and confirms the company has crossed the unicorn threshold.
A Cap Table of Industrial Heavyweights
Xynova's shareholder list now reads like a cross-section of Chinese hardware. CATL and Xiaomi anchored the angel round, JD.com came in at Pre-A, Li Auto backed the Series A, and Meituan plus NIO Capital headline this A+. Seven strategic investors in total, with a combined market capitalization exceeding RMB 5 trillion — a syndicate that doubles as a potential customer pipeline.
23 DOF, 400 Grams, 12 kg Payload
The product drawing that capital is the Flex 2 dexterous hand: 23 degrees of freedom in a 400-gram unit rated for a 12 kg payload, built on rope-driven transmission with self-developed motors, electronic controls, ball screws and reducers. Xynova positions itself at the manipulation bottleneck of embodied intelligence — the last unsolved layer between humanoid bodies and useful work.
The round fits a broader pattern in China's embodied-AI market: capital is concentrating on the component layer — dexterous hands, joints and sensors — where unit economics can materialize years before full-size machines ship in volume. Meituan's lead also extends its steady accumulation of robotics positions across delivery, logistics and now manipulation hardware.
What to watch next: whether Flex-series hands ship in volume alongside the humanoid programs of Xynova's own strategic investors, and how fast the company can convert a heavyweight syndicate into purchase orders rather than press releases.
