Beijing — One day after ringing the opening bell on Shanghai's STAR Market, Unitree Robotics is already rolling out a new product category: a biomimetic seven-axis dexterous robotic arm starting at ¥9,900 (about $1,390), the company announced Thursday.
The arm weighs 5.5 kg and is built around high-precision seven-axis biomimetic joints. Unitree says two arms can work in tandem for material sorting and assembly tasks, and positions the product for research and education deployments, with exploratory service-robot applications to follow.
A new rung on the price ladder
The launch extends Unitree's signature price-collapse playbook from legged and humanoid platforms into standalone manipulation. The company's April dual-arm torso platform started at ¥26,900; the new arm cuts the entry point for a single arm below ¥10,000 — roughly the price of a mid-range laptop, and well below the five-figure band that Western collaborative arms typically occupy.
That matters because research and education is where Unitree's volume actually lives. In the first nine months of 2025, research and education customers generated nearly three quarters of the company's humanoid revenue — a demand base of universities and labs that buys on grant budgets rather than factory ROI. A sub-$1,400 arm brings dexterous manipulation within reach of student teams and single-PI labs that could never justify a full industrial workcell.
Timed for procurement day
The launch landed on day two of the World Robot Conference in Beijing, which for the first time features a dedicated procurement day, with 49 state-owned enterprises shopping across 12 application scenarios. The industry's center of gravity this week has visibly shifted from stunt performances to order books — and Unitree's booth, still drawing crowds after Wednesday's 460% first-day close at ¥845, is the fair's de facto flagship.
Shares pulled back sharply in Thursday trading, giving up part of the debut surge — a reminder that public investors will now grade Unitree on shipment and margin execution rather than spectacle. Rolling out an aggressively priced new SKU within 24 hours of listing reads as an intentional signal: the price weapon is the business model.
Component-level play
Founder Wang Xingxing, speaking publicly for the first time since the IPO, said Thursday that embodied AI could reach its ChatGPT moment in as little as two to three years — and that the hardest remaining problem is aligning model input-output with millimeter-level physical precision.
The new arm slots directly into that thesis. Every cheap, capable arm placed in a lab becomes a data-collection and talent-training node. Unitree has spent a decade converting affordable hardware into global research mindshare, from Go2 quadrupeds to G1 humanoids; extending the stack to standalone manipulation keeps that flywheel spinning at a moment when rivals are still arguing about what a humanoid should cost.
For the embodied-AI research community, the practical takeaway is simple: the cost curve for dexterous manipulation just took another step down, and it happened one day after the sector's first pure-play humanoid maker proved it can survive public-market scrutiny of its margins.
