China Opens First Embodied AI Training Demo Center in Shanghai

China's first Embodied AI Training Demo Center was launched at WAIC 2026, jointly established by the National and Local Co-built Humanoid Robotics Innovation Center and Huawei. The center focuses on real-world data collection, model training, and performance evaluation, supported by a 6,800 sqm Shanghai Humanoid Robotics Pilot-Scale Service Platform with 2,000 robots/year capacity.

The National and Local Co-built Humanoid Robotics Innovation Center, in partnership with Huawei, has launched China's first Embodied AI Training Demo Center during the 2026 World AI Conference (WAIC) in Shanghai. The center is designed to leverage real-world scenarios and high-quality data resources to create a global benchmark for embodied intelligence training.

The facility focuses on four key areas: multi-dimensional real-world data collection, model training, performance evaluation, and application verification. The collaborative program aims to transform the center from a single training ground into a comprehensive platform with complete capabilities spanning data, models, evaluation, and deployment.

Alongside the demo center, the Shanghai Humanoid Robotics Pilot-Scale Service Platform was also unveiled and put into operation. Occupying approximately 6,800 square meters in Shanghai's Pudong New Area, the platform consists of three major functional areas: assembly, specialized testing, and intelligent storage. With an annual pilot production capacity of 2,000 robots, the platform is expected to address key bottlenecks in humanoid robot development, including prototype deployment, mass production stability, and high testing costs.

These initiatives are part of China's broader push to establish a complete humanoid robotics industrial chain, combining policy support from the 15th Five-Year Plan with industry infrastructure investments. Shanghai has set a target of deploying 100,000 humanoid robots in factories by 2030, with AI agent adoption among large-scale industrial enterprises expected to exceed 80 percent.
