Boston Dynamics Leadership Crisis: Hyundai Pushes for Faster Atlas Production
Boston Dynamics is experiencing significant leadership changes as its major shareholder Hyundai exerts pressure to accelerate production of the Atlas humanoid robot. According to recent reports, the CEO, COO, CSO, and CTO have all retired or departed in recent months, with the board pushing for leadership changes to support mass manufacturing and scaling as the company prepares for an initial public offering. Hyundai wants to deploy tens of thousands of Atlas humanoids into its car factories as soon as possible, but Boston Dynamics is currently only producing approximately 4 Atlas robots per month. The company is planning to transition to production at a new manufacturing facility soon. Despite the production challenges, Atlas remains one of the most advanced humanoid robots in the world, featuring 56 degrees of freedom, the ability to lift up to 50 kg, and operation in temperatures ranging from -20C to 40C.
