Tesla Officially Launches Optimus Gen 3 Mass Production: $49K Price Tag
Tesla has officially announced that its Optimus Gen 3 humanoid robot has entered mass production as of Q2 2026. The first batch of production units has already rolled off the assembly line at the Fremont factory and is currently undergoing internal testing. The primary production hub for the robots is Teslas Fremont factory in California, which has been completely repurposed from the original Model S/X production lines. The company aims to complete the line conversion within four months, with a designed annual production capacity of one million units. Meanwhile, the Shanghai Gigafactory has already deployed 50 Optimus Gen 3 units into its automotive assembly workshops for seat installation, interior assembly, component handling, and quality inspection tasks. Optimus Gen 3 specs include: height of 173cm, weight of 57kg, walking speed of 1.2m/s, maximum payload of 20kg, and 10 hours of continuous operation with 2.3kWh 4680 battery. The unit price is set at $49,000, representing a 73% cost reduction compared to the 2024 prototype. Approximately 70% of core components are sourced from Chinese suppliers. Tesla plans to expand to a second-generation robot production line at the Texas Gigafactory in 2027, with a long-term goal of reaching 10 million units annually.
